Alison,
Winnie,
Kenneth,
Dorothy and
Frederick at the Colemans home in Wanstead.
The photographs above were taken and developed by
Malcolm Knight in March 1959. He often spent the Easter holidays
with his Aunt Win. His Uncle Ken later asked for copies of the photographs taken during the free holiday at Wanstead and Malcolm sent
a bill!
The black and white photographs below are from August 1959. The colour ones are undated although there are sufficient clues in the final five to suggest 1979.
A picnic at Windy Gap a mile or two east of the Knights home at
Johnson Way, Fleet; a very sandy spot much occasionally used by the army for training purposes. On the day in question a number of
soldiers engaged in a mock battle within no more than fifty yards of out party complete with with rifle firing. Everyone survived.
Those present were Alison, Dorothy, Kenneth and Winifred Coleman and
Rosemary,
Vera and
Leslie Knight. Malcolm as usual was hiding behind the camera.
An extra face visible in the large version of the group photograph is that of Evelyn Fletcher, a neighbour from No. 1 Johnson Way.
A colour photograph of Winnie, Alison and Dorothy on a visit to Johnson Way may be seen
here.
Alison and and Dorothy on wheels in their own Wanstead garden. On the right a year or two later, Alison sits on the swing bench at
Aldershot Road.
There is a similar photograph of Alison and Dorothy
here.
In the garden of
Wellington Avenue. New kids on the block are
Charles Dingle (who Dorothy
married) and their children
Christine and
Andrew. Also
Anne (who Malcolm Knight
married) and their children
