My dear Leslie,
Thank you so much for your letter. It was very nice to hear from you and I
should be pleased for my name to be used on your behalf.
I gather you do not want a written reference at this stage: and I expect I shall
have a form from the Civil Service later on with a number of questions to
answer.
I hope that you (sic) pre-fab. is of the American
type, which are, I think, pleasant, but the others are too cramped. I had an
idea that you lived opposite Whipps Cross, but I must have imagined it.
I am living in a very nice modern flat, though the rent is anything but nice.
However, I am very lucky to have it, and I have access to a large garden. for
six months I was over an hours journey from the church and parish.
If you are ever able to come over this way I should be pleased to see you, and
would send directions as to how to come.
I had reached the stage when I could not stand the Docks any longer. It has all
changed very greatly since you knew it. I do hope that you will be successful in
your application, and I promise to fill in dutifully any question forms that are
sent to me.
Every Blessing to you, and all good wishes.
Richard V. Seymour
The reference to Whipps Cross was not imagined as Leslie Knight
and his family had moved from 126 Whipps Cross Road, Leytonstone, E11 to 14
Second Avenue, Porters Field, Leyton, E10 in June 1947. |
