Christmas 1975
Less than three weeks after moving into a new house and it
looks rather sparsely decorated. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a tree at the
other end of the room.
Next day the main sewer blocked and was found to be full of bricks. All our
efforts failed to clear it and Hart council charged us £10 to do the job. We
then threatened to sue them for issuing a certificate earlier the same month to
say the house was fit for occupation. The charge was waived. If there is a
competent or honest council in the whole of this fair land I have yet to live
within its borders.
