At the height of the war the eldest of
Em and
Dicks three children Evelyn was sent, at age 19,
in 1942, to a munitions factory at Burfield near Reading in Berkshire. (She had a choice which included Chorley in Lancashire and Cheshire, Shropshire). Evelyn worked
there until April 1945 and on 23 May, just after VE-Day, she married Bill Cain whod been a Spitfire pilot during the Battle of Britain and later.
After her mother moved out with her new husband
Fred, Evelyn and Bill took over the home at 18 Skelton Road and lived there
until Bills retirement in January 1987. Bill had worked with London Transport as a bus driver and whilst at Skelton Road the pair had two children Brenda and
Michael. After Bills retirement the couple moved to 101 Windsor Road, Manor Park, E7 and in 1995 to 6 Kings Gardens, Upminster, Essex, RM14 1LA.
