Holidays and Visits

The square format pictures suggest the three above were taken by Rosemary. On the left we have St. David’s Cathedral and on the right the small Pembrokeshire village church opposite where we stayed. The tower sticks in my mind because the vicar spent most of the week installing and adjusting a UHF TV aerial at the top of the tower from which he was attempting to get a colour picture from the Cardiff (Wenvoe) transmitter, UHF colour TV not having spread into darkest Pembrokeshire by 1969. The big occasion was the investiture of the Prince of Wales and the vicar’s attempt to sell tickets to see it live in colour in the church hall. My guess is that the middle picture must have been taken on the seafront of nearby Tenby. All other local seasides could boast no more than rocks and sand.
More from Pembrokeshire. An example of the rocks and sand on a rather dull day and the large lily pond at Bosherston which claimed myths of King Arthur. What a load of rubbish. Everyone knows he lived at Tintagel! All the above taken in June and July 1969.
More photos from that holiday.
The garden of 37 Aldershot Road, Fleet from Kodachrome slides dated January 1967. As well as the usual gang we have Olive’s cousin Iris and her husband Peter. On the right in the short trousers is their son Christopher.

These four photos were taken in July 1972 if the labelling is to be believed. They were taken on a family holiday in Ambleside in the Lake District. The last of them looks rather similar to the view of Loch Lomond from Duck Bay just north of Balloch.
