Burma in the Monsoon Season
Most of the photographs below have almost faded away and
required extensive renovation before being posted here. Several are endorsed on
the reverse side by Alfred Knight and it is possible that they had been sent
back to England to illustrate what he was doing in Burma. There is talk of the
site of his new house but whether or not it is this
one is unclear. Fortunately not everywhere was as wet and desolate as these
scenes indicate and there was some semblance of
civilisation not too far away.
A general view towards the river and the site chosen for a new jetty.
Stores being delivered to the site of a new jetty and coolies carrying bricks.
The site for the
new house and a general view towards the Customs Office.
Burmese coolie women waiting to be paid and a general view of the oil field.
Moving machinery around the Burmah Oil wells.
