The Los Angeles census of 1900
records that William Pollard (the son of the William on this page) was born in 1850 and that both his parents were from
England. The only family shown on the 1861 Canadian census that fits those
facts is the one shown above. The names of
William’s sisters on the 1861 Ontario (City of Kingston) census are not
easy to decipher but the abbreviation Wm. is clear for both father and son.
The 1871 Canadian census suggests correct identification because the fourth daughter’s name
is clearly shown (as are all the children) as Heathfield
which is known to have been used by the second generation. Mary employed the same servant
in 1891 as William did in 1900 providing further confirmation that William and Maria are correctly
identified as the English forebears of the Pollard family.
The 1881 Canadian census shows a four year old Grant W. Pollard, born British Columbia, living at the same address
as William and Maria.
