The eldest Townsend sister, Jane, married
George Sandford and bore triplets. Sadly, she died shortly after giving
birth along with one of the babies, (Madeline).
The two surviving children were
Dorothy, (Dolly), and young
George.
It is known that the father George served in the army during the 1914-18 war and
according to Will Townsend, was one of a
number of the family who worked for London Transport. Others being brothers
Jim and Will Townsend,
Evelyn’s husband Bill Cain
and Doris’s husband
Harry Hotten.
After Jane’s premature death George Sandford re-married but no details of his
new wife Ruth are known.
