Holiday in Cornwall

1978

We booked a little cottage just north of Plymouth for a week but the south coast beach (left) did not find favour with the children. The sand was gritty and made them dirty so most days we drove 30 miles north in our little Mini to Bude where the beach (right) had everything two youngsters needed. The picture in the middle was sneakily taken by Iain; his first attempt at photography of which no one was aware until we had the film developed. Not bad considering there was not a single automated feature on the old camera; so much to go wrong but so little did.
We played on the rocks and built castles in the sand but also took the occasional trip to other places. We went to Torquay but try as we might we could not find a parking space so drifted on to Babbacombe.
Another day we went to Newton Abbott where a preserved railway line had just opened and ran a short distance alongside the River Teign. We had to wait two hours for a train so wandered about the engine shed and rode on a toy train to pass the time.
As you can see, Iain thought the ride was great fun but Kirsty was not so sure.

We weren’t far from Dartmoor so we took a look around there but somehow always finished up sooner or later on the beach at Bude.
