Twelve Acre Crescent
The Coronation street party held five years earlier may be seen
here.
Rosemary Knight returning from observing
a neighbour’s wedding at St. John’s church - March 1958.
The house immediately behind Rosemary is believed to have been occupied by the same family from 1954 to 2007.
Mr. Gardners Riley 9 parked outside his house and Rosemary rides along the middle of an otherwise empty road.
Roller skating was a very popular pastime and was both fast and daring using nothing more than iron wheels and only a thin strap to hold them to your shoe. Rubber replacement
wheels were available at half a crown a go but suspension systems and comfortable boots had yet to make an appearance. The most artistic moves were usually followed by a tumble.
Peter Reeds roller skating in his
Farnborough Grammar School blazer - May 1958. Someone seems to have treated him to a set of rubber wheels.
The Vauxhall Cresta in the background probably belonged to
Mr. Malekin the owner of the nearby grocery shop - no one else could afford one.
