W. G. Eric Lewis

Relaxing at his home on the Pyestock Estate

This photograph of Eric in 1958 is one of many of him and his family at home and on holiday which are on the protected ‘family’ area of this website. This single example is made available for general viewing so that he may be seen by visitors to the N.G.T.E. section. Eric was a scientist who relentlessly pursued the idea of a ‘three spool’ jet engine which eventually went into production as the Rolls Royce RB211. He went on to become Director of Production of Concorde and was awarded an M.B.E. He still lives near Pyestock and whilst well into his eighties remains active in his garden and takes regular holidays abroad.

Note by Malcolm Knight - 2 September 2007.
