A trip back in time
18th July 2004

2009 Rallies
A bus enthusiast event in Alton Hampshire which we attended to remind ourselves what the old Tracco
(Aldershot & District Traction Co. Ltd.) buses were like. There were also plenty of others to see
from private and municipal bus companies long since gone.
On the left the driver and owner of LOU 48 a Dennis Lance 220 bus dating from 1954. On the right he
checks the passengers are behaving themselves before departure.
These buses were designed to pass under the several low bridges on the London to Southampton railway
in the vicinity of Farnborough. They stood only 12 feet tall and the upstairs walkway was
necessarily lower than the upper deck seats providing a hazard to those below who stood up without reading the warning notice.
The driver prepares to leave with a full load and a whole 96 horsepower at his disposal.
Caught on camera are Malcolm Spalding, bus owner; his wife
Honora,
Marion Squires,
Rosemary and
Ian McLean and
Iain Knight.
